Our Team

Nathlie S. Ray

Welcome to the firm! I’m Nathlie S. Ray, JD, LLM, founder of Southern Bayou Legacy Law Firm.

I graduated from Loyola Law in 2014 after a 23-year career in ERISA plan administration and compliance [ERISA governs employees' benefits at work — like retirement plans (such as pensions and 401(k)s) and health insurance.] My experiences in that industry provided me with a unique perspective of the complexities of asset management and the importance of safeguarding individual’s hard-earned wealth.

As a first-generation lawyer and one of the oldest children in my family, I understand the difficulties of navigating the challenges that arise as family members grow older. I am committed to serving our community and recognize the emotional logistical hurdles that families face in protecting their financial future. My passion lies in providing accessible legal solutions that empower my clients, helping them make informed decisions during the most difficult times.

After considering how I wanted to use my legal education to make a meaningful impact, I chose to take a heart-centered approach to guiding individuals and families in crafting plans that provide clarity, peace of mind, and a lasting legacy. I decided to return to school and earned a Master of Laws in Elder Law and Estate Planning in 2024.

The processes that I have implemented in the Firm are designed to go far beyond simply choosing between a will or a trust. We take a close look at your family dynamics, review your assets (you may have more than you realize), and explore what would happen under Louisiana law if you had no plan in place. Then, I help you craft a legal strategy that reflects your values, protects your loved ones, and ensures your wishes are honored.

By proactively facing the realities of life and death, you gain the clarity and confidence to make informed decisions — decisions that protect the people and the future you care most about.

As your dedicated advisor, I’m here to guide you through every season of life — helping you make wise legal, financial, and personal decisions today, and standing beside your family when you no longer can. My purpose is clear: to keep families out of court and conflict and to ensure your legacy reflects your values, your voice, and your vision.

When I’m not at the Firm, you can find me spending time at my family business, Bayou Kids, wrapping presents and greeting our little guests.
